Calendar Project, Day 3

Today's calendar panel is Summer!  The leaves are still stamped in Old Olive, but a few are stamped and cut out, and layered with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Then the sun flowers are stamped in Daffodil Delight, with a few also cut and layered.  The brown centers are touched with the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker, and the stems are hand-drawn using the paint-brush side of the Old Olive marker.  Don't you wish it were summer now?  The weather's been a little yucky!

Calendar Project, Side 2

Today's panel for our calendar project features a spring scene with Season of Friendship.  The winter panel had the snowflakes stamped all over, and today's panel has leaves stamped in Old Olive, and then flowers stamped in Rich Razzleberry.  A few of the flowers are stamped and cut out, and so are the birds.  This adds to the time factor, but makes a big difference in how it looks in the end!

Calendar Project!

This calendar is a gift that I received from Monika Davis, when we were at Leadership convention, last year in Nashville, TN.  I first met Monika at National Convention in Salt Lake City, 2010.  She needed a roommate to convention, and sent out an email within a group that we are both in, and so I answered, saying that I had always wanted to attend a convention.  So we met then, and hit it off, and have tried to room together when we are both attending the same conventions.
It is tradition to have a little gift for your roommates, and this is what she gave us.  It is a calendar that has 4 sides to it.  I will show you the other sides over the next few days.  This would be a great class project right now!  It features Season of Friendship stamp set.

When in Doubt, Give Jewelry!

Sorry about the reflections, but these Simply Adorned Charms are even more beautiful in person!  The Dasher stamp fits beautifully on the larger, 2 12 X 1 1/4 charm,  This fella is stamped in Early Espresso, then sponged all around.  The merry is from Tiny Tags, and punched out with the Jewelry Tag Punch, and also sponged.  A small scrap of Early Espresso 1/8" ribbon, and a bit of Linen Thread, finishes this off nicely.
The charm on the right is 1 X 1 1/2, and features the key from Vintage Vogue (I think...I'm away, and don't have a catalog, and am being lazy enough to not want to download it from the website!)  It is stamped in Crumb Cake, and then cut out.  It is layered over the other stamps, stamped off to make them lighter... To give it a little shimmer, I coated the key in Smooch, but it doesn't show up well in the picture... a little scrap of vintage lace ribbon, tied with Linen Thread, and you have a lovely charm to wear with just about anything!

Wedding Invitations

I haven't yet photographed all of the hand-made cards I received this year, but I haven't forgotten, and hope to get them posted, but it will have to wait, as we are visiting family and friends all week, and I won't be home to get to that... so I'm blogging post using photos that are saved onto my computer, or those that I take this week!

I created the diamond/squares on My Digital Studio.  I could offset the letters 45 degrees, so that I could cut the paper into perfect squares, and got these perfect diamonds.  I could fit at least 12 on a page.
A few months ago, my friend, Lissa, asked me to help her make the wedding invitations for a young friend of hers.  I know this beautiful young lady; in fact I taught her older sister.  It has been a while since I've been an 8th grade Science teacher, and I loved it.  But still, it makes me feel a bit old, making the wedding invitations for a former student's little sister!  But this is what we came up with!

The invitation is a folder, held closed with a belly band.  We took a blank sheet of Basic Black cardstock, stamped it all over with Serene Snowflakes, then wrapped it around the invitation.  Add your initialed square, and you've got simplicity and elegance!  The rhinestones added just the right touch of sparkle.  They were all a little different, with the sparkles landing on a snowflake somewhere along the border.

The invitations came together pretty easily, with only a few rookie mistakes.  We found a run-on sentence in the directions, and tried tbox o hand-write a comma, but other than that, I think they were beautiful.  I loved the colors that Amy and Jason chose.  Pacific Point, Basic Black, and Naturals White (it has tiny black flecks in it)  The wedding info is glued down, but the folder side holds the reception info, directions, and hotel info.  There's also an RSVP postcard tucked in there too.  This was Lissa's gift to Amy, so she paid me for all of the supplies.  And we discovered that Stampin' Up! supplies ended up costing less than using a big-box store!

Christmas Scrapbook in a Box

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I hope you are having a wonderful day with your family.  Today my family is traveling to our parents' homes, on our way to a marathon of gift-exchanging, eating, and fun!  A few years ago, after going to our 4th home on Christmas day, we learned that our kids couldn't last that long.  So we started asking Santa to visit a day early...now my family exchanges gifts Christmas Eve morning, and the kids have all day to play with their new toys without having to put them away to travel for hours to do it all over again.  It has worked well for us over the years.
My mom also joined in on the compromise, and she now hosts Christmas on the 26th, so you see where the marathon comes in?  We are at Jason's mom's on the 25th so we don't have to hurry through the meal or the gift-giving, which is very nice.  We can sit back and relax and just enjoy the day.  But now, on to the stamping!
Today's project is another one from last year.  This is an Exploding Scrapbook in a Box.  I believe I got this idea from Monika Davis.  The top picture is the box closed with the lid on.  Then, when you open the box, the sides all cascade down and you have several layers and sides on which to scraopbook!  I think I cut out at least 40 of these last year for my customers to take home and assemble after our initial class where they first learned to make them.  I think I had to re-order Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive 12X12 3 or 4 times!  And I'm still using up the strips left over from making the layers...they reside in my scrap box.  Many of the layers and pieces on the panels are from the squares cut out of the corners.  After cutting the squares and layers, I added a few touches with the Tasteful Trim die, punches, and glass glitter.  We glued all of these pieces and parts onto the layers.  But now that we have the Sizzix Adhesive Sheets, we can save a ton of time in making these!  I still have one of these on my desk shelf, and I hope to finish adding pictures to give this to my grandparents...

boxes of my own, but haven't finished putting pictures into it yet....I'd better finish it soon or

Christmas Collage Revisted

This card is gorgeous, isn't it?  I can't take the credit; my downline, Christine Egal, made this.  I received it last year.  This was a card she taught at her monthly card class.  Featuring the Christmas Collage, and Bells & Boughs, it has so much detail!  This is one of those cards you might make 4-6 of, but not 46 of!  I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!  Perhaps I'll post some of the beautiful hand-made cards I've received from my stamping friends...but I'd better get permission first!

Snow Much Fun!

This card is one full sheet of Whisper White, folded in a tri-fold.  Stamp the images from Snow Much Fun, then stamp your snowflakes and add some sponging.  The curly label punch allows you to peak a little at the next layer!  These images were colored with Stampin' Write Markers.  Super cute!

More Christmas cards, thanks Jennifer!

This one makes me laugh every time I see it!  I haven't even given this one away yet this year, because I don't want to part with it; it's so cute!  But now that I've gotten a good picture of it, I will be able to recreat my own next year.  Perhaps I'll part with it soon. The Word Window punch makes up the hands and legs, and the mouth is the small oval punch (retired), with the head being the Wide Oval Punch.  The body is one of the Circle punches.  And those antlers are one of the Swirl Sizzlets, so if you have a punch collection started, you can probably make some very cute characters!

Now this card, in all its elegance, is another one that is even prettier in person.  That white is our Shimmer White, so the paper glistens beautifully, reflecting the light.  This card features the Bells & Boughs set, stamped in Garden Green, and the berries are red glitter-glue.  The ribbon is Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, and the ornament is from Delightful Decorations, punched with the Ornament Punch.  I have one more card tomorrow from Jennifer's stamp-a-stack, so check back then!  I had 2, but I sent one out before I photographed it!

Colored Christmas Cards!

Look at this beautiful card!  I made this with my downline, Jennifer Reed, at her Christmas Stamp-a-Stack back in October.  She had some really great ideas, one of which was to create trees with the 3 Heart Punch!  And the picture doesn't do it justice, as the Garden Green paper was first layered in Irridescent Ice, so it has a wonderful sparkle to it!    The white is Glossy White, so the Watercolor Crayons are wonderfully muted and soft-looking.  The snow on the hills is Dazzling Diamonds, on a layer of 2-Way Glue!

Jennifer's stampers love to color, so she always has different mediums to color with on her card samples.  This adorable card is CASED from the catalog, and showcases the Watercolor Pencils.  Now, the Watercolor Pencils do not exactly coordinate with the Stampin' Up! 40 colors, but that's not a problem.  Since there was not a pencil for Old Olive, I simply layered a green pencil over yellow, and then when I wet them, the layers blended beautifully to match the green in the rest of the card.  And check out those paper buttons!  I love that you can make as many buttons as you need, in any color that you want!  Jennifer did a beautiful job on these 2 cards, featuring different ways to color on cards!  Check back tomorrow for a few more of Jennifer's cards!

Simple vs Fussy!

I love when a card has lots of white space, known as Clean and Simple (CAS) and this swirly-worded stamp set is perfect for a simple card layout with lots of white.  The Holly stamp was stamped in Old Olive, then I took a blender pen to remove the ink from the berries...then colored them with my Real Red marker.  Stamp the Season's Greetings in Real Red, and you are set!  Layer it up!  The bow is just a little white ribbon with a square Fire Brad.  I don't remember the name of this set; I believe it was a hostess set last year.

Now, this card is the opposite of Clean and Simple!  Fussy to the max!  I blatently CASED this from Jan Tinkleberg's blog, last year, although I was unable to find the exact card I copied.  If you have ever been to Jan's blog, she loves her layers, her glitter, her wonderful cutting....and I love her beautiful creations!  I just don't go straight to that style all the time.  Perhaps once the kids are in school the whole day, I'll have more time to fussy-cut!  This set was called A Cute Christmas, and to get that pink tree, we stamped it onto a piece of DSP, and then cut it out.  The snowman is stamped on white, then cut out - worth the work!

Modern Heard from the Heart

This is not my normal style, and I CASED (Copy And Share Everything) this from Mary Fish's blog last year, and offered it with my Christmas card class.  This is very simple to make with just a few accessories... The colored squares, Bashful Blue, Old Olive, Marina Mist, and Real Red, are punched with the 1 3/8" square punch.  Then, take your Corner Rounder Punch, and punch just one corner.  The snowflakes are made with the Northern Frost Sizzlets Decorative Strip die.  You can make 8 at a time, with a 2X12" strip of paper.  Attach your Old Olive ribbon, and stamp sentiment with Real Red ink.  This is another good card for someone with limited supplies....

2011 Lebanon Holiday Parade

Just a quick family post!  You know I'll have to add these once in a while, as I am blessed with 4 kiddos.  These are my youngest 2, Jesse (6) and Mikayla (7).  Yes, I know they have a bit much make-up on, and I don't think it would be so bad, if I had some blue eyeshadow or something.  I really did a double-take, when seeing how grown-up they look with my brown eyeshadow on.  So I have since then gone out and bought a new set of eyeshadow, complete with blue, purple and pink!  We'll see how they look at the Chrismas Eve performance!

Each year, Lebanon has a Holiday parade, marking the day that Santa arrives at the mall.  It is a nice flat, straight, mile-long parade, and we had perfect weather for it!  I probably overdressed the girls, but it was really cold in the morning, so they each have another entire outfit under the sweats, turtlenecks and hoodies!  This is them at the beginning of the routine, and as cute as it was, this was the only time they were all together!  It was a bit of a hot mess, but the kids were clearly having fun, and the watchers seemed to enjoy it too...

I shall definitely be trying blue eyeshadow next time!  I'm not ready for smoky eyes!

Jesse after the parade, wanting to go home, but a cup of cocoa and candy cane cheered her up nicely!

Jolliest Time of the Year, Santa

Remember when I said I don't like much line art for Christmas cards?  Well, count this as an exception to the rule!  I love this Santa image, and all of the images that go with this set, Jolliest Time of the Year.  This would be a great card to do in batches....that is, make 10 each month, or 5, depending on how many cards you send each year.  A few layers really add to this card, and the tinsel on the bottom (retired...sniff) is an added bit of texture.  All that's missing is a little Merry Christmas stamped on the bottom.  Colors here are:  Garden Green base and marker, Real Red layers and marker, Baja Breeze layers and marker (to accent the snow)

Dasher

I love the Dasher single stamp, don't you?  For this card, I tried something a little different, called the Stained Glass technique.  Once I start doing tutorials, I'll photo this one.  It is very simple... You start with saving your scraps of rubber from stamps that you purchase.  Cut them into small shapes and put them onto a block.  I had my hubby make me a few, but you could use an acrylic block, or recycle something firm (like an old book?) to stick those scraps onto.  They have to be pretty close to each other, so you don't have big gaps.  Stamp your image first (Dasher here) then ink your scraps background stamp with Versa Mark ink.  Stamp over the image, sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder, and heat emboss.  SCRUB your image with a sponge with dark ink (Early Espresso used here).  Wipe with tissue, and you have this!
This card is great for mass producing.  The bottom red panel can be DSP, or in this case I added a little texture by running it through the Big Shot with Textured Embossing Plate.  The above card also has been run through a Textured Embossing Plate.  a strip of ribbon, accented with a brad, and you have a simple, elegant card!

This is also great if you are just starting with stamping, and don't have a ton of supplies.  One stamp, one ink color, and 3 card stocks... (and a pack of brads) Very budget friendly!

Christmas Collage

These 2 cards both use the Christmas Collage background stamp.  That's one big stamp!  To get the different colors on one stamp, I first brayered ink onto the stamp, then took a sponge dauber inked with a darker color ink and sponged some areas before stamping onto the panel.  I find it easier to lay the card front onto the stamp; it is easier to line up than laying your big stamp onto the paper...

Silver Serene Snowflakes

Who doesn't love Silver Snowflakes?  This was another card from last  year's class, and was one of my favorites!
Do you know how to make a paper frame?  I will have to show you how, but I don't have pictures of one just yet...but it is a great way to add layers, without using too much paper (it keeps your card from getting too heavy, but does add a little time)
This card base is Night of Navy, and so is the Satin Ribbon.  The white is our gorgeous Shimmer White cardstock, and has a beautiful subtle sparkle to it.  Well worth the money, but also worth conserving!
To make the snowflake background, I used our Shimmer Paints (Platinum).  I sponged the paint onto the stamps then stamped the background, leaving the bottom right corner blank for the greeting.  The inside panel with the layered snowflake was where the frame idea comes in.  I first stamped the largest snowflake (Serene Snowflakes stamp set) onto a square of Shimmer White cs.  I then punched out the center of the snowflake with the 1 1/4" square punch.  For the Night of Navy layers, I punched a 1 3/8" square.  This gives you enough to cover the hole in the shimmer white layer...
Simple and elegant, this would be beautiful in deep purple (like Concord Crush), black or gray...

Season's Greetings

This card looks so simple!  But it took a while to make...
Start by stamping Season's Greeting on the Certainly Celery panel.  Then, draw your lines using a ruler and your Old Olive Stampin' Write marker.  Run that panel through the Big Shot, with the squares Embossing Plate.
To make the actual ornaments, stamp a snowflake onto a Real Red scrap of cardstock, punch with the 1" Circle Punch.  The Merry Christmas is stamped onto Certainly Celery with Old Olive, then punched with the 3/4" Circle Punch.  The dec.25 is stamped with Real Red, punched with the Small Oval punch, hole punched and then a little Baker's Twine goes up and is taped onto the back of the Celery panel.  The other oval I believe is stamped onto Always Artichoke.
The joy piece was stamped with Baja Breeze ink, then punched with the Ornament Punch.  After that, I pressed it into a Versa Mark pad...then sprinkled Irridescent Ice Embossing Powder all over it, then heated with the Embossing Tool.  The sparkle doesn't show up well, but in real life, it added a nice touch of glitz!
All of this gets layered onto an Old Olive card base.  This was one of the cards I offered last year during a Christmas Card class.  I got the idea from Stampin' Success, a magazine that all Stampin' Up! demonstrators receive each month.  It is usually filled with project ideas, and I often start by using an idea that I see....but this time I pretty much copied the card directly.

Elf Shoes!

I love to be funny and mean at the same time to all of my brothers and brothers-in-law, don't you?  So this is the card that I sent them last year!  If you take the Top Note die, and cut it into 4 sections, you can get 2 pair of shoes from each Top Note.  After cutting, you then need the curves along the top.  To make this as easy as possible, I used the Large Oval Punch, the long side to cut near the toe, and the smaller curve for the heel.  I don't have a note as to where I found this, but it is not my original design.  The stamp, even the NAUGHTY deserve something NICE was colored with Garden Green and Real Red markers.  The glittery socks are simply strips of DSP!  Glitter was already on them!  So fun!

Santa Card

This card was just plain fun to make!  It is pretty simple, with the texture folders adding the extra finishing touches.  Those buttons are PAPER!  I made them using the buttons embossing sizzlet.  It makes 6 buttons at once, and that makes it go fast... This is one of the largest buttons, so if you use one of the smaller buttons, you can use 3.  The buckle is my favorite part, punched out of our new Glimmer Paper.  First, punch a 1" square, then line it up and punch with the Curly Label punch.  To make that straight piece (called the prong), just cut a little strip from the left-over squares.  Easy and fun!

Christmas card picture...

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I've posted!  I was feeling like I was getting into a routine, but with Thanksgiving, traveling home (and not taking my computer with me), and visiting with family, I got out of rhythm.  We'll see if I can keep up with Christmas projects these next few weeks.
I am sending out all of the different cards I had posted, and have others to post as well, but I ususally try to put a photo in the envelopes for those that don't see us often.  With the move, I didn't get us in to a photography studio for family pictures, and I'm sorry, but not too many people want the single shots of each of my 4's school pics, so this year I decided to do something a little different.
This summer, before the move, and while Jason was between projects at work, we took a 24 day trip out west, making it to California, and then back.  It was a great learning experience, and we saw a lot of great American landmarks!  So this year, I crammed just a few of our favorite pictures from the trip, with only a few of the sights we saw, onto a 4X6 photo.  I used My Digital Studio to resize and crop the photos, and then layered them up.  I'm sure I could have made it look nicer, but I wanted to get as many photos in as possible, so I gave up form for function.  I hope I don't have to trim them much, but I will have to fit them into my 4 1/2 X 5 3/4 envelopes!  Oh well....
My cards are done, addressed, the letter is written...all I have left is to pick up the pictures (once they come in) and then print out a mailing label for each person.  Since we move so much (this was address #10 for us this time!) I decided to print a label for each person getting a card, just in case anyone used pen in their address book. :)

Update:  If you receive a card from me, you may notice that it appears we went to DLANDS ational park....and Jake might be missing an elbow or hand...I am learning on MDS, and there is a "bleed are" where your project may be cropped a little for printing... well, my pictures came out fine, but Mikayla was right on the edge on the right side, so I had to trim the left side to fit it into the envelope.... but no matter!  I just hope Jake, already with a case of middle child syndrome, doesn't read anything into it. :)
